High School Principal

St. Bede Academy, a Catholic college-preparatory high school in North Central Illinois, seeks its next Principal to lead its mission of academic excellence and faith-based education. This position is available for July 1, 2025. 

For over 125 years, St. Bede Academy has been shaping students spiritually, intellectually and morally. While we pride ourselves on our rich history and tradition, we understand the ever-changing needs of students today. Our goal is to provide students with an education that will not only develop their minds, but also strengthen their character preparing them for life’s challenges.

Traditionally, St. Bede’s ACT scores rank #1 in the surrounding area and many of our Top Ten students graduate with a GPA above a 4.0. 97% of our students participate in extra-curricular activities. The academic environment at St. Bede encourages students to excel, both in and out of the classroom.

The next principal will have the opportunity to build upon this strong foundation by working closely with the Benedictine Community, board of trustees, faculty, staff, students and families. Who We Seek 

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and visionary leader who is passionate about Catholic education and committed to fostering both academic excellence and faith formation. The next principal will be responsible for: 

- Overseeing the Academy’s academic, operational and student life programs. 

- Supporting faculty and staff through mentorship, professional development and evaluations.

- Implementing and maintaining high academic and disciplinary standards.

- Serving as a liaison between the Academy, board of trustees and the broader community. 

- Leading key school committees, including the Student Success Team and Principal’s Advisory Committee. 

- Overseeing student management and learning systems (TeacherEase LMS & SMS). 

- Ensuring compliance with Illinois State Board of Education, IHSA and NCEA requirements.

- Promoting a culture of faith, service and excellence.

Qualifications

- Illinois Professional Educator License with Principal Endorsement. 

- Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience. 

- Experience in educational leadership, curriculum development and faculty evaluation.

Head Football Coach

Season: Fall 2025

Knowledge/Skills/Attributes, not limited to: 

  • Advanced (post high school) level playing/coaching experience and advanced knowledge in the sport.

  • Understands and respects the past history of the football program and can manage the high expectations that our school community and alumni have for the program.

  • Communicative in nature and willing to collaborate with both program coaches as well as other athletic program coaches.

  • Possess the ability to articulate vision, properly formulate goals and objectives aligned towards an established vision, and demonstrate adaptability in approach.

  • Be active in advanced planning and preparation.

  • Demonstrate and model outstanding character, in line with Christian values/virtues, both on and off the field and expect no less from all stakeholders associated with the program.

  • Ability to represent Saint Bede Academy and Abbey to the highest degree professionally.

  • Acceptance of SBA/IHSA regulations, expectations, policies, and procedures as to contribute to the good working order and mission of the school.

Essential Responsibilities, not limited to: 

  • Represent Saint Bede Academy and the football program in a positive, professional manner. Provide constructive and inspiring leadership of others.

  • Promote a positive culture within the football program and school community, including strong student academic achievement, daily student attendance and learning how to set and achieve individual and team goals. 

  • Manage and supervise football activities, games and practice sessions to promote individual growth in skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and good sportsmanship.

  • Use a variety of differentiated instructional techniques and technology to meet the needs and improve the abilities of ALL student athletes in football. 

  • Demonstrate accountability for oneself, coaching staff and players.

  • Ability to appropriately incorporate the spiritual component within the program.

  • Formulate and conduct a comprehensive off-season training program to include strength and conditioning, skill improvement, and overall elevation as a student-athlete and person.

  • Plan and implement targeted, rigorous, and consistent in-season practice time.

  • Implement a comprehensive method of issuing, collecting, and tracking ALL equipment, uniforms, and other necessities within the football program.

  • Provide supervision of student-athletes in all locker-rooms, weight room, on school provided transportation, and on the field of practice/play.

  • Establish/provide game day recommendations to the Athletic Director.

  • Demonstrate a calm and friendly demeanor for all parents, alumni, and other stakeholders, as to create respectful conversations centered upon child growth and achievement as athletes, students, and young adults.
